Island Watch Picnic Picks
for Top End Wedding
Every Island Watch episode, we cook up a specialty picnic based on the film/tv we watched. Movie munchies menu made easy!
All the foods here will absolutely enhance your enjoyment of watching Top End Wedding, so lay in your favourites, and press play.
Croissants with a generous dusting of icing sugar: Trust us. It’ll help immerse you in the experience of this movie. (And really, who needs an excuse for a croissant?)
A good strong cuppa and a plate of bikkies aka tea and cookies, Aussie style. A necessity for important conversations of the heart.
Get out the champagne flutes!! Grab your favourite bottle of bubbly and get ready to toast!
Homemade pizza: is the way to someone’s heart. Unless that someone prefers takeout. Just skip the anchovies this round - there’ll be enough salt from one of the character’s tears. This recipe is simple and reliable.
Wedding Cake: If you live in Australia, you can order a cake from the same people who made the cakes for Top End Wedding! If you’re one of the 7,849,085,825 earthlings who don’t call Oz home, either order your favourite cake from a baker you love to support, or try this stunning alternative!
Island Cast
Top End Wedding’s main cast features:

She and co-host Nakkiah Lui have great chemistry that easily draws you in to discussions on race and colonialism. Very worth a listen.

Roadtripping in the Top End
Fabulous scenery is part of what we talk about this episode. We were blown away by the scenes set in this gorgeous place.
Eucalyptus forests are a common sight in the movie. It’s hard to find a more Australian symbol: koalas cuddle in them and dine on their leaves, their wood is the best for making didgeridoos, and there’s more to know about them here.
Oh no! The robots are coming to take our croc spotting jobs!
More movies filmed in the Northern Territory - crocs, frocks, and shocks!

Island Rating
Gemma: Toes in the Sand (4 out of 5)
Sure, the movie does a wander through mainland Australia - it’s also fun! And the bits on the island feel very at home, and - to quote The Eagles - they’ve got a peaceful, easy feeling.
Dave: Strolling on a Beachside Boardwalk (3 out of 5)
The portrayals of Tiwi culture are engaging. It seems to me that islands are the bookends for the island, the termini of the journey.
Star Rating:
Gemma: 4.5 out of 5
Production-wise, as good as anything out of Hollywood, but with lots of true heart.
Dave: 4 out of 5
This is a well-made rom-com. The characters are enjoyable, there’s the right balance of comedy and drama, and the setting is amazing.
Find The Island
“Sunset is at the essence of [this island’s] enduring myth; the reason why the Cycladic isle of orange skies and white chalk houses is repeatedly voted Europe’s most popular destination.” Helena Smith, writing for The Guardian, captures the allure of this week’s island.
Our Next Island
Our next island: Pull out the hankies (and whatever soothes your tum after a nearly inedible meal) - we are heading to Guernsey for a gander at The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
